Chapter Four

Olivia recognized her mom’s scribble on the stationary that was pinned on the pillow. The note said she and Walt had taken the last flight out to Aspen, Colorado. Walt was having asthma attacks due to the muggy weather in New York so they both decided that a change in weather would do him good.

Her mom apologized for the short notice and hoped Olivia would be alright.

Olivia smiled. Five years into her mom and Walt’s marriage, they still acted like honeymooners taking off at any moment’s notice. Olivia didn’t really mind. She has proven that Walt truly loved her mom and she seemed content and happy in her role as Mrs. Walt Caldwell.

Olivia was grateful for Walt’s generosity not only to her mom but to her as well. When they first moved into this place after the wedding, he knew that Olivia planned to move out, an idea that didn’t sit too well with her mom.

Walt surprised her by gifting the guest house. It was a delightful cozy two-bedroom annex right beside the main house with its own gate and driveway. Olivia loved the privacy it afforded her. She could come and go as she pleased, have friends over without worrying about Walt and her mom’s privacy. It was like having an apartment. And it was rent-free.

She started working in an Ad agency weeks after graduation. Her impressive GPA had landed her a job in Research. She could take on 20 projects at once and was bored when nothing challenged her mental ability. She never buckled under pressure and after 3 years of impressive performance, Olivia was promoted to Marketing Vice President.

“You didn’t do too badly, Olivia Phillips,” she applauded her reflection in the mirror.

The prescription glasses were gone. She never really needed them. She still thought her eye color looked different, but she had learned to embrace the hazel orbs. It gave her face character. So did the once wild untamed hair that used to be the bane of her existence. They hung free around her shoulder in what her stylist called bohemian chic – perfectly ‘undone’ yet classily polished.

The years have given her body ripeness. Her luscious breasts, flat stomach, narrow waist, and firm butt gave a general impression of a naturally sexy woman. She had her share of love affairs but none amounted to anything serious. Most men found her intimidating.

Olivia shrugged her shoulders dismissing the depressing thought. Her current existence was perfect.

Well…except for the occasional memory of an atrocious stepbrother. But she hadn’t seen him in years. He was like a speck of superfluous memory in her psyche, one she could dismiss at will.

Olivia shrugged out of her silk blouse, her boobs jiggling slightly inside a sheer lace bra. She reached behind her to unhook them. Her exposed nipples puckered in the sudden draft. Her tight skirt shimmied its way down her thighs and onto the floor, followed by her high heels. She walked about her bedroom with only her thong panties. The plush carpeting felt glorious beneath her bare feet.
